Meet Our Staff

Colette graduated from Towson State University in 1983, and became a certified public accountant in 1987. In 1993 she started her own practice and in 1997 co-founded the firm with Ronald Butler.

Since then, she has been serving clients in many industries, including construction contractors, real estate developers, retail, physician practices, aircraft broker and direct mail advertisers. She enjoys working with small businesses from inception through their growth cycle. Her personal expertise encompasses tax planning, accounting system design and training and general management issues. In addition, she provides individual tax return planning and preparation.

Colette is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants, the Maryland Society of Accountants and the National Society of Tax Professionals.

On the personal side, Colette and her husband Tom Pountnay are residents Howard County. Outside interests include the on-going renovation of their historic home, entertaining and cooking. Colette's daughter and two step-sons keep her active through various school and sports activities.

Evan is a native Baltimorean and recently moved to Howard County. He graduated from Randallstown High School in 1990 and Towson State University in 1994. After passing the CPA exam in 1994 (on his first attempt), Evan started his accounting career as a staff accountant at a small local firm, Beverungen & Co, CPAs. Having worked there for almost eight years, Evan was promoted to tax manager, vice-president and eventually became a partner in 2001. Evan joined Butler, Lavanceau & Sober, LLC in October of 2002 and became a partner in October of 2003.

Evan has extensive experience helping individuals and small businesses with a wide array of tax and financial planning issues. He has served clients in many industries, including: real estate, medical services, legal services and contracting.

He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants and the Maryland Society of Accountants.

Kristy began her accounting career while still in high school. In 1996, she was hired as an intern at a local firm, Beverungen & Co., CPAs (yes - the same firm Evan Sober started with), where she worked until graduating from college. She graduated from Howard High School in 1997 and earned her bachelors degree in accounting from the University of Maryland in 2001, where she graduated with honors. After working as a senior staff accountant with a large regional CPA firm, Kristy decided her passion was working with small business owners and joined Butler, Lavanceau & Sober, LLC in October 2003.

Kristy specializes in tax and financial statement preparation for small business and individuals. In addition, she is our in-house QuickBooks® expert, available for training and setup. She has extensive experience in the real estate, professional service, and food service industries.

She is a member of the Maryland Society of Accountants.

On the personal side, Kristy lives in Eldersburg with her husband, Kevin, and two daughters. In her spare time, Kristy enjoys volunteering at her daughter's school and spending time with family and friends.

Suprina is employed by us through her own accounting firm called SNA Accounting and IT Services. She spent eight years in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1993. Three years later, she graduated from the University of Richmond. She received her Masters of Taxation degree from the University of Denver in 1998 and became a Certified Public Accountant in 1999.

Suprina specializes in individual and small business taxation. She has extensive experience in the real estate, retail and the insurance industries. She enjoys working with small businesses and setting up their accounting systems.

She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants and the Maryland Society of Accountants.

On the personal side, Suprina lives in Severn with her husband, Antoine. She has two children, a son and a daughter. Her interests are gardening, sewing and reading.

Chrissy graduated from Sparrows Point High School in 2002 and worked at Provident Bank until she joined us in April, 2005 as our office manager.

Chrissy handles the day to day running of our office. She runs our front desk which includes scanning and mailing all the tax returns and financial statements. She answers the phones and greets our clients who stop in for appointments.

She enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She lives in Nottingham, MD.
